4.  Brockley Society urgently needs a Treasurer!
Our treasurer stepped down at our November AGM due to other commitments. We urgently need someone to replace her. Accounting knowledge is useful though not essential.
The main work is the newsletter advertising revenue three times a year and the Midsummer Fayre. We use an elegant online accounts system called Quick File. The fayre stalls coordinator (usually different from the treasurer) enters applications directly on to the system. The treasurer has to oversee bank reconciliation and payments.
To discuss further details please ring me, Clare, 020 8692 3829 or 07963 763 831.

7.  Philippines Typhoon Haiyan appeal
See below Alison’s report on the appeal (pdf), which I would have sent before Christmas had my laptop not been stolen (thanks for the many messages). There was a magnificent response to the appeal from Brockley!

Philippines typhoon:

Brockley Philippines Appeal for goods

A personal appeal about the Philippines typhoon

I am a Brockley resident with roots in the Philippines. My two friends from Tacloban (but who live in Manila) were affected by Typhoon Haiyan. One lost his parents, nephew and family home. The other lost her family home. This has made the devastation of the typhoon very personal to me.Being victims of the storm and unable to go to Tacloban in the aftermath of the storm, my two friends decided to help all their friends and their families find a way out of Tacloban. They set up a mini ‘command centre’ at home in Manila. Using social media and an outpouring of response and support, they were able to guide 169  people out of Tacloban through a 600km trip to Manila. All these people arrived in Manila having lost everything last week, Their immediate care is urgent. Friends, family and strangers have taken them in. My sister and her husband, who are surgeons in Manila, have been part of the effort to take care of their medical needs. Now their needs are clothes, and toys for their children.I would therefore like to make an appeal for donations – used clothes (summer clothes only), new underwear (Primark will do); toys (preferably colouring books) and cash to help with shipping costs.

A shipping company is offering to ship boxes to the Philippines for £44  for a box [30 x 22 x 20 inches /  76cm x 56cm x 51cm] regardless of weight. I am hoping to be able to send at least two boxes by 2 Dec 2013. I will cover any shortfall in costs. Any extra cash raised will be donated towards medical missions being arranged.

Collection arrangements:

– Brockley Market on Saturday 30 Nov 2013 (look for car parked outside marked ‘Philippines typhoon’)  or
– Bring to Clare’s, 76 Tyrwhitt Road, SE4 1QB or
– Phone, text or email me if you want me to collect from you (see below)
No donation is too small. I will post updates on our Brockley effort. Thank you in advance
