My name is Laura Doehler. I have a son in Edmund Waller Primary school and I co-organsie the winter fair coming up 30.11. which is next Saturday. I would like to let you know that you can book a table with Ema Felix (emafelix@hotmail.com) if you would like be present on the fair with craft activities or selling. You can also have a free table on the school ground outside (unless it is raining, then inside) because we would like to give local charities the chance to inform people about what they do. If you would like to use this opportunity just get back to me and I will organise a place and a table.

All the best and I am looking forward to hear from you, Laura

Otherwise of course, feel free to come along. It is from 12 – 4pm. There will be mulled wine, stalls, performances, music and so on.

Dear Garden lovers,

With all this warmth and sunshine the garden is bursting with life – come and pop in for a visit! We’ve got our regular Sunday opening from 2.00pm to 5.00pm and also both a kids workshop and an adults workshop in August, so you’re spoilt for choice!

First up is the kid’s workshop on Wednesday 7th of August called herb spiral fun. It is suitable for children of all ages and runs from 10.30-12.00, and will involve fun learning activities, games and singing.

After that there will be an adult’s workshop on Saturday 17th of August called Herbs and their uses and will run from 10.30 to 12.30. As usual this will be a mix of learning and practical activity.

The workshops are informal and fun, and it’s a great way to learn a few more gardening skills and share tips with other gardeners.

More information on the courses is given below. If you would like to attend any of them, or want more information, then please text Rich on 07901 360321 or email commongrowthuk@gmail.com giving the name of attendees and a contact telephone number. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. All courses are free, but we suggest a £3 voluntary donation to help cover the costs of materials.

Grow Wild and Common Growth are inviting you to another free permaculture gardening workshop at the Common Growth Community Garden on Sandbourne Rd. The workshops are informal and fun, and it’s a great way to learn a few more gardening skills and share tips with other gardeners. Saturday’s course is on pests, and although this might not sound glamorous, every gardener knows how annoying it is when your salad crop gets munched up by snails overnight, or your beans attract black fly. So come and find out how to control these problems without using chemical pesticides, but by using organic permaculture methods.

Sat 8 June 10.30 – 12.30 Insects: Friend or Foe?
~ Learn to identify pests
~ Organic pest control methods
~ Recognising beneficial insects and how to encourage them to your garden
~ Practical activity: planting flowers which attract beneficial insects to the garden.

If you would like to attend the workshop, or like more information, then please text Rich on 07901 360321 or email commongrowthuk@gmail.com giving the name of attendees and a contact telephone number. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. All courses are free, but we suggest a £3 voluntary donation to help cover the costs of materials.

Also, don’t forget that the garden is open on Sunday afternoons from 2.00pm to 5.00pm. We are always looking for more enthusiastic gardeners to get involved – no gardening experience necessary, just come and enjoy the garden!
Looking forward to seeing you there.

The Hill Trader is an exciting pop up shop in the Hill Station café run by local people for local people.

As part of what we’re doing at the Hill Station we have opened this shop as a pilot for 4 months, selling locally handmade things as well as bread and milk. We are working with local people who are giving us some of their products to sell, and in return will volunteer at the shop for a session a week. This means we all get lovely things to buy and they get valuable retail experience without the financial risk of renting a shop.

Our vision is to provide a space for people to both buy and sell locally produced goods, share skills and inspire others who want to create things to sell. We have aimed to be as inclusive as possible and are trialling a range of different items produced by people of all ages and backgrounds.

As a community initiative The Hill Trader shop will pass on the costs of sales directly to local people providing the goods, with 15% commission retained to cover set up and overhead costs.

We’re excited about starting this new venture and we are keen to hear whether you agree a shop like this would be a great resource for our community. Please do also get in touch if you have something you would like to produce for the shop.

The Hill Trader is grateful for the small start up grant it received from the Telegraph Hill Ward Assembly

Jacqui, Stephen, Sarah and all the local suppliers x
