Halloween at Common Growth

The Halloween Event at Common Growth was a success. Many thanks to Suriya, Ruth, Louise, Ella and Jim who organised it. There was games, singing, planting, art, and a soup making demonstration by Louise from Grow Wild. The photos attached tell the story of a fun afternoon! It is great to see that the space is put to good use this time a year. Hope to see more of this at CG in the future.
We’ll be doing more building stuff over the winter period. Not too much growing anymore – apart from Broad beans and garlic, and some salads. We’re also waiting to pick the brussels sprouts and dig up the Jerusalem Artichokes. Does anybody know how you’re supposed to know the artichokes are ready for digging up?

Some of us have discussed having a ‘Christmas Party’ at the garden with mulled wine and mince pies! You’ll definitely be invited if it happens…!

Bold Revue Show! 04.06.11

The feathers have been dusted down, the sequins sewn, the lycra, leather and lace prepared – the time is right for the Revue Show to take Telegraph Hill by storm.

The date to remember is Saturday 4th June. The bar at Hill Station opens at 7.30pm and the show starts at 8.30pm (estimated end time 10.45pm). The venue (Narthex, Telegraph Hil Centre) will be dressed, so should you be in any which way you want – have fun, it’s your night! This show is for adults only (18+).

Confirmed acts include:

An Opera singer
Performance poets
Several bands
Street dancers
Jazz singers
Cabaret performers
A blistering comedienne
Satirical sketches
Belly dancers
Torch singers
A Comic Poet . . . . and many more amazing acts to confound and delight in equal measure

The Revue Show is a fund-raiser in aid of Bold Vision, a local charity dedicated to making Telegraph Hill an ever greater place to be. Bold Vision has achieved a lot, but there remains a lot more to do. Raising funds will help Bold Vision achieve much more for our community.

Brockley Max 2011 festival 27.05.11 – 04.06.11

A host of performances, gigs, workshops, spoken word and children’s activities are lined up

for this year’s Brockley Max.

Brockley Max taps into the creative expression of resident artists just down the road from the Hill Station. Be they painters, musicians, performers or poets with something a little bit quirky, or just plain old traditional, all come together under this year’s theme of MAX IT UP – JOIN THE FUN! The festival comprises a wide range of events and activities with something to appeal to all residents of all ages.

The festival runs in Brockley, Ladywell, Crofton Park and Honor Oak Park.

A few highlights from the programme

27 May with ‘The Max Opening Night’ featuring an eclectic line-up of musical acts performing at Brockley station.
Gospel vocal collective and classical music at St. Hilda’s.
CueB and Tank Galleries host exhibitions of installation pieces and photographic work.
Laughs are guaranteed as Peter Searles brings his storytelling and comic timing to the stage at The Orchard.
Enjoy the big screen experience as Brockley Wood Nights returns with an evening of film shorts at Lewisham Arthouse.
4 June: workshops and activities for children as part of ‘Art in the Park’ on Hilly Fields. Arts and Crafts market on Hilly Fields. Festival close out with a series of gigs across various local venues.

Last week I signed the lease from Lewisham Council to get the land for the Bold Vision Common Growth community garden.

Watch this short video to see the Common Growth land and some of their plans for the future. To get involved you can email them directly at commongrowthuk@gmail.com. They are looking for all sorts of people to get involved -you don’t need to already knopw how to grow vegetables.
