A hive of activity at Common Growth

Sunday 6ht of January 2013

I was pleasantly surprised to see that on a miserable grey Sunday so many volunteers braved the cold and came to help out at the Common Growth garden. With the promise of cups of tea, hot soup and cakes as a reward, 12 of us set out to build the greenhouse and planters, fix the gate, put up a trellis, paint the fence and harvest Jerusalem Artichokes (see the photos). This working together, conversations, camaraderie and sharing food is exactly what Common Growth is about! So thank you very much to Kayvan, Tamsin, Isabella, Pat, Arij, Carlos, Jim, Carlo, Richard,  Zuhura and Rich for all your efforts to make it such a brilliant start of 2013!

Over the next few weeks we’ll continue to do some building work at the garden, so that we are ready to start the next growing season come Spring. Do come along if you’d like to help with any of these jobs: finishing the greenhouse, doing some landscaping, making a path, painting the fence, turning the compost heaps, building a new pond, building a pergola. We’ll also continue to serve freshly made soup in the garden, as we intend Souper Sunday to become a regular community event for all.

By the way, the greenhouse was bought with support from Grow Wild (www.growwild.org.uk) – and we can’t wait to start using it!

Hope to see you on a Sunday from 2-5ish in the Common Growth garden on Sandbourne Rd.
